Sutton Weaver

Parish Council

Sutton Weaver is a small village and civil parish situated between the towns of Frodsham and Runcorn on the A56, it is part of the Marbury Ward in the unitary authority of Cheshire West.

The “Weaver” affix comes from the river Weaver and may have been first added when the railway station opened in 1869, to avoid confusion with another village called Sutton in (now) Cheshire East.

Sutton Weaver has approximately 220 houses.

The Sutton Weaver Swing Bridge is situated on the A56 between the village of Sutton Weaver and the town of Frodsham. The present bridge was constructed in 1926 and is a vital transport link across the river Weaver.  The bridge, which carries an estimated 20,000 vehicles per day, had major works to upgrade it in 2014, at a cost in excess of £4.5 million.

The Famous “Danny” the SS Daniel Adamson is moored by the Sutton Weaver Swing Bridge from Easter to late September.

Murdishaw Crossing Update

Published: January 28, 2025

E McVey edited

In October 2023 Highways England installed the new A533 Expressway
bridge over the M56 motorway. During its construction the Parish Council
approached Highways England asking if they would provide a permanent
pedestrian crossing over the A533 to the Murdishaw shopping area. This
they agreed to do by way of funding. It was explained that the area
concerned belonged to Halton Borough Council and they said they would
communicate with them. This dragged on for over 2 years with no
communication from Halton Borough Council, despite numerous efforts.
As a result your Parish Council asked Esther McVey MP for assistance
and the above PDF is the result.
